Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions, Answered

If you’ve never visited a professional Massage Therapist before, you’re bound to have lots of questions or concerns. Below, you’ll find a list of several frequently asked questions from my patients. If you have further questions that are not answered here, please reach out to me directly and I would be happy to discuss your concerns.

Do you offer direct billing to my insurance company?

We offer direct billing to most major insurance providers including Blue Cross, Great West Life and many more. To find out if your private plan allows for direct billing, you will need to contact them prior to your first treatment. Your insurance plan may also require that you obtain a doctor's referral to access your benefits. If this is required, be sure to bring your referral with you when you come for your first session.

Can I still benefit from massage therapy if I am not experiencing physical pain?

Absolutely! Massage can have benefits that extend far beyond pain therapy including decreases in anxiety and stress, improved blood circulation and nervous system functioning, and increased comfort and acceptance of your body. Massage can also be used as a preventative maintenance therapy to help keep your soft tissues in optimal condition so they are less susceptible to wear and tear injuries.

What should I expect from my first session?

During your first session, we will go through a thorough assessment (about 15 minutes) to determine how your injury or condition is affecting your daily life, what movements or activities might be causing you pain, and review any previous injuries or conditions that may impact our treatment plan. This will be followed by a customized treatment specific to your condition. You may wish to book a longer treatment time for your first session as the initial assessment is included as part of your booked time. Subsequent treatments will not require a full assessment.

How should I prepare for my first treatment?

It is important to be well hydrated prior to your treatment as your soft tissues will respond better to manipulation and deeper work this way. You will receive a health history form by email that will need to be completed prior to your first treatment. You can complete this at home or arrive 15 minutes early to complete at the clinic. If you plan to access extended healthcare benefits with your private insurance plan, you may need to contact them to determine whether you need a doctor's referral prior to your treatment.
